Instructions:
Write your thoughtful (reflective) responses to what you are learning from the online lectures and/or the content of the required readings. The above section specifies what course content you will base your reflective responses upon for Response Paper Assignment. You do not have to response to all of the above content. Focus your reflective responses to a central concept/idea and/or data within the lectures/required readings that have been particularly interesting to you. Think about and analyze this course content. The best papers critically discuss one concept in a thorough manner.
Move beyond simplistic responses (e.g. “I enjoyed the online lectures”, or “The readings were hard”). Instead, demonstrate reflective thought in your paper. Explain why you enjoyed the readings or the lecture content with specificity. The goal for Response/Reflection papers is to demonstrate reflective analysis of the course content; to take in knowledge and reflect upon it. The exercise of critical thinking skills is a necessary component of this assignment. This does not mean to only find flaws and judge harshly. Instead, critical thinking “… is that mode of thinking – about any subject, content, or problem – in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon them” (Paul and Elder 2008:1).
Do not summarize the above-required readings/lecture content, this is nota report paper.
Do not fill your paper with numerous and/or overly long quotes. Use two references in your course
content section: one medium to short (less than 50 words) quote (remember to use quotation marks if you using the exact words from the readings and/or lecture material); and one paraphrased reference (remember to cite in ASA style when paraphrasing/using ideas from the readings and/or lectures).
